Welcome to UCP Seguin

UCP Seguin of Greater Chicago is a charitable not-for-profit agency serving individuals with disabilities in metropolitan Chicago and beyond.

THEY DESERVE MORE

Illinoisans with disabilities and their families and caregivers will have to wait a little longer to get the help they need as the Illinois House closed out May without a budget and without taking action on SB955. The House did approve extending the deadline for voting on SB955 until the end of June.  The Illinois General Assembly now heads into its extra session, in which any bill in the House or Senate requires a 60% majority to pass.

We must continue our advocacy throughout June. State leaders simply cannot expect services to children and adults with disabilities to continue without providing the essential resources.

We have waited nine years; we cannot wait any longer! Dedicated workers are leaving for better paying jobs and it is nearly impossible to recruit new direct support professionals (DSPs) with such low wages to offer. The state's inaction and neglect is essentially forcing Illinois to move backwards rather than enabling people with disabilities to have fulfilling, productive lives in their communities.

We will not let up until the Illinois legislature and the Governor make this right and raise wages for DSPs to $15.

People with disabilities deserve more. Their families deserve more. They both need caregivers who earn a living wage.

Many thanks for your support of this critical initiative.
