Welcome to UCP Seguin

UCP Seguin of Greater Chicago is a charitable not-for-profit agency serving individuals with disabilities in metropolitan Chicago and beyond.

THEY DESERVE MORE

As you may know, the General Assembly is in special session through this Friday, June 30. All eyes are on Springfield to pass a budget by this deadline. At this time, our best chance of achieving a long-overdue raise for caregivers/Direct Service Providers for people with disabilities is to ensure that it is included in a budget bill.

The budget bill passed by the Senate last month includes funding to increase caregiver wages - but by a paltry 50 cents per hour. Other options being considered fall short of resolving this crisis. We can't wait any longer for our elected leaders to do the right thing.

For the moment, budget negotiations are taking place in the House. The clock is ticking.

We strongly urge you to reach out now to your State Representatives and tell them to support a budget that provides a living wage for those who care for children and adults with disabilities.

We must act now to ensure that the General Assembly passes a FY 18 budget with adequate revenue to address the near-decade-long neglect of disability services. It's no longer a problem, it's a catastrophe with community homes closing and hundreds of caregiver positions going unfilled.

As reported in today's Chicago Sun-Times, families lucky enough to make it off the 8,500-person-long waiting list for residential services will often find no group home in their area to accept their loved ones. The waiting list for all services is nearly 20,000.

The 19th Annual Back To School Fair for UCP Seguin's Children's Foster Care program will be held on August 12th.  To ensure our kids start off the school year with everything they need to succeed, we are seeking donations of school supplies.
