Children's Foster Parent
JOB DESCRIPTION
We receive referrals from DCFS and other foster care providers to foster children with special needs. Our children come from temporary homes, hospitals or residential settings. All of the children we work with have experienced trauma and many have experienced neglect. They need dedicated foster parents to welcome them into their homes and provide love and nurturing.
Children With Medical Conditions and Disabilities:
- Specialized children are often between the ages of newborn to 10 years or older.
- They may have severe Asthma, Diabetes, Shaken-Baby Syndrome or a wide-range of other medical issues.
- Most of these children require special training and/or equipment that will be provided to you.
- Many of these children will frequently need to visit a specialist.
- In addition to Case Management support, you will also have a nurse assigned to help you with your child’s extensive medical needs.
Children with Behavioral Problems and Disabilities:
- Specialized children are often elementary, middle school, or high school-aged.
- They may have cognitive delays, social skill deficits, and/or other mental health diagnoses.
- They may have challenging behaviors ranging from swearing and noncompliance to aggression or self-harming behaviors.
- The behaviorally-specialized foster children we serve will have a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), or a Level II Behavior Analyst that receives supervision from a BCBA, to work with you and the youth.
- In addition, they sometimes will see a therapist and/or a psychiatrist.
