From Cultural Competence to Cultural Humility
Basic diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonginess (DEIB) trainings are designed to develop cultural competence. This includes increasing participants’ understanding of others’ cultural experiences and respect for differences as well as acknowledging power and privilege imbalances that exist in workplaces. This interactive workshop will build upon the DEIB topics presented in the Explicit and Implicit Bias Series delivered this past Spring/Summer in order to move staff from cultural competence to cultural humility. This includes a commitment to self-evaluation/self-critique, sincere advocacy, and employee/institutional accountability. A required self-evaluation will begin prior to this workshop via the completion of two Harvard Implicit Bias Tests that will be provided for participants.
