X-WR-CALDESC:Flipping Your Focus: Prioritizing Skill Building in Behavior R
eduction\n\nWhen clients present with behavioral excesses that interfere w
ith their functioning and livelihood\, behavior analysts typically first c
onduct functional assessments to determine what variables are contributing
to and maintaining the behavioral excesses. We are also ethically obligat
ed to recommend the least restrictive procedures that are still likely to
be effective in targeting any behavior change. In this workshop\, you’ll l
earn to flip your focus when analyzing functional assessment data by conte
xtualizing those data as either performance deficits or skill deficits. Th
is analysis will then be used to inform the design of replacement behavior
training procedures\, with an emphasis on teaching behaviors that 1) are
ecologically and socially valid to the client\, and 2) can be effectively
and efficiently taught in order to minimize the need for reactive\, or oth
 erwise intrusive\, procedures.
