Shankar & Devi Sanwalani
In 2002, Dr. Shankar and Devi Sanwalani were among six sets of parents who decided to transfer their children with autism from another community services organization to UCP Seguin. As a result UCP Seguin began providing residential and day services to the Sanwalani’s son Vikas. Shankar, who is also an oncologist, and his wife Devi are extremely appreciative of the conscientious and high-quality services UCP Seguin has given to their son and their family. As they have said, “Vikas has benefited greatly from UCP Seguin’s consistent loving care and his behavioral issues have been greatly resolved.” As a testament to their gratitude, they have been extremely generous in giving back to UCP Seguin over the past 13 years, making regular and significant financial donations to the organization. The Sanwalanis believe it is their duty to be philanthropic because they feel they have been “blessed” – both through the services their son has received and by the quality of life they have enjoyed since moving from their native India to the United States. The Sanwalanis attend all UCP Seguin special events, while also enlisting their family and friends to support UCP Seguin. They have donated to the general good of the agency, but also to cover costs of new furnishings and improvements for their son’s home in Forest Park – donations that also benefit Vikas’ housemates, enabling them to live in beautiful, functional, and safe home.
